- What separates FanDuel and DraftKings sportsbooks from the rest
- How the two have become the go-to book for the majority of American sports bettors
- Which of the two, in our eyes, is the best US sportsbook
You’ve decided you’re going to wager on the game and you’re understandably excited and eager to do so. But, like many bettors in the US, getting started with sports betting has been halted temporarily.
Not by sign-up issues. Not with payment methods or a lack of betting variety. But that one debate that continues to divide us all and leave us none the wiser after. That stumbling block being: FanDuel sportsbook vs DraftKings sportsbook: Which is best?
Are you Team FanDuel or Team DraftKings?
Like we all have our favorite sports team we all have our favorite book to bet with. But whatever way the argument is dressed, the result is always going to be subjective.
That’s not to say our expertise of gambling can’t lead us to a well-considered conclusion though. Before we get stuck into the debate, here's where the sportsbooks are available at present.

FanDuel sportsbook vs DraftKings sportsbook
For us, these are the key areas we base the majority of our sportsbook reviews on (plus seven means there must be a winner!)
In this instance it’s worth pointing out, such things like app availability (both are accessible on iOS and Android) and state availability (both are live and legal in the four primary online markets (NJ, PA, WV, IN) is the same and so weren’t worth comparing.
There are, however, differences in the aforementioned areas.
In our recent poll, “Trust” was the most common answer (40.58% to the question: “What is most important to you when choosing an online sportsbook?”
“Payments methods” was the second most common answer (24.64%) to the question”
With that in mind - and given we’d already touched on the brand strength of both operators - we got down to which offered the best range of payment methods.
- Online bank transfer
- FanDuel Prepaid card
- Online bank transfer
As you can see, both offer plenty of options to fund your account. But FanDuel offers some, DraftKings does not. For instance, the FanDuel Prepaid card which brings an added sense of security for customers and the PayNearMe option that allows bettors to pay at a convenience store.
Round 1: Banking 💳
Eight deposit options
The difference in the money you can win is always going to play an important part when choosing a sportsbook. Safe to say both wouldn’t be where they are if they didn’t offer good odds. But to declare who offers is the best in this specific department is tough to determine.
From our experience, though, more value can be found with DraftKings sportsbook. Their sportsbook provider, Kambi is renowned for its unrivaled pricing of markets.
By contrast, FanDuel is slower to react and update odds: the only explanation for this is the superiority of Kambi.
Round 2: Odds 📈
Best priced odds
Jumbled. Illogical. A turn-off. Three ways to describe many US sportsbooks that have launched since 2018. Fortunately, FanDuel and DraftKings are not part of such a club. In fact, the interface and general appearance of both sportsbooks are among the best, albeit quite contrasting.
DraftKings has its dark background and green and white text in keeping with its brand for a striking yet practicable feel. The book is nicely laid out, neat and logical in many ways.
You will not find a more polished, modern-looking sportsbook than FanDuel
Our favorite aspect is the ‘popular sports’ tab positioned across the top of the book which saves time if you’re against the clock and need to place a bet quickly.
A glance at this particular row and you can find what you’re looking for straight away, which is a marked difference compared with FanDuel who instead list ‘popular sports’ down the page (and can mean unnecessary time spent scrolling).
Having said that, you will not find a more polished, modern-looking sportsbook than FanDuel.
The influence of parent company Flutter Entertainment - responsible for European betting giants Betfair and Paddy Power - is noticeable in the design of the book which has the intent of a bettor firmly in mind.
While the dark background of DraftKings is in line with the ‘dark mode’ function we’re seeing introduced for many social media apps, the navy blue/white combination of FanDuel is aesthetically pleasing and instantly appeals to the eye. What’s more, FanDuel accomplishes the impossible for some books which is: doing simple things well.
As you can tell (by the length of this specific text), the interface is everything. Ease of use and appearance go hand-in-hand. Get it right, as FanDuel has done, and customers will feel no need to go anywhere else. The bar has been set in this department.
Round 3: Appearance 🖥️
Clean, modern interface
4. Variety of sports
Scroll down to the bottom of the DraftKings sportsbook and there’s a (handy) link titled DraftKings vs FanDuel where the Boston based operator points to having the upper hand in a couple of areas. One of those suggests the availability of sports to bet is better at DraftKings sportsbook.
As mentioned, DraftKings sportsbook relies on Kambi (the industry-leading supplier of online sportsbooks) when it comes to markets and odds. Their statement does then carry some weight in the sense that their partnership with Kambi means they can offer markets on practically any sport going.
DraftKings can offer more than just the typical wagers
By no means, though, is the variety of sports available at FanDuel any less, at least to the average punter who will still find a range of bets including money lines, spreads, parlays, props, teasers, etc. for sports across the globe.
Kambi enables DraftKings to offer more depth and more than just the typical wagers accessible everywhere else. So, for a more varied range of wagers, DraftKings is the better of the two.
Round 4: Variety of sports 🏀
More depth and variety available
5. Mobile app
On the App store, it’s a 4.7 rating for the FanDuel sportsbook app and 4.8 for Draftkings. But we beg to differ.
As alluded to, the user interface on offer at FanDuel is strikingly good. Likewise, functionality. Nailing these two qualities makes for an app easy to navigate and a delight to use for all levels of sports bettor.
For instance, live bets, trending bets or upcoming bets, are all easily accessible through three well-designed tabs. Also, the layout and design of the app are identical to the desktop site which helps to keep that familiarity should you be going between laptop and using the app on-the-move.
The DraftKings sportsbook app offering isn’t far off FanDuel and includes all points discussed already. Like FanDuel, it also scores high in reliability.
But it lacks simplicity and ease-of-use compared to its rival. Finding odds and placing a bet is just as good but whereas FanDuel is stripped right back to accommodate beginners, it feels as if betting novices could easily become lost with DraftKings.
Round 5: Mobile app 📱
Easy to navigate & highly functional
6. Customer Service
Overlooked and rarely valued. That is until you need to speak to somebody regarding a bet not being paid out. Or the unavailability of a market that is. As boring as it may sound, it’s important to consider the importance of customer service
From checking out Twitter, we can see both are active and responsive to customer issues day, night and sometimes through the night. And this is good to see. But not everybody is on Twitter. So what are the standard channels of communication like?
Customers at DraftKings have three options available (excluding Twitter) including direct message, e-mail, and post. Customer support is available 24/7 but not via telephone.
FanDuel offers customers the chance to get in touch via a live chat service available 24/7, email, post and essentially, by telephone (10 am-8 pm).
Both have put together very useful FAQ guides., it must also be said. However, the lack of a phone option at DraftKings is undoubtedly a problem; despite the advancements in technology, many consumers still prefer to have a human voice resolve an issue and are comforted by this. You can’t help but think DraftKings has missed a trick here.
Round 6: Customer service 🗣️
Live chat, email, telephone
Last but, by no means least, we rate the sportsbook bonus offers on the table.
Currently, new customers in NJ, PA, WV, IN, who choose FanDuel are eligible for a $500 risk-free bet (if your first bet loses, the book will refund you in site credits up to $500 or the amount deposited). There is no deposit bonus available.
Up until March 2020, DraftKings had a similar offer in place but have since remarketed their three bonus offers for a combined total of $1,025 available to new players.
Broken down the offer is made up of one no deposit bonus of $25, just for joining; a deposit bonus worth 20% up to $500 and a risk-free bet up to $500 if a first bet loses. The offer applies to all new sign-ups in NJ, PA, WV, IN, and NH.
New customers who appreciate the 'try before you buy' of the no deposit bonus will automatically lean towards DraftKings, as will we.
Round 7: Bonus 💰
Sign-up bonus up to $1000
The Bottom Line
After much time spent analyzing both sportsbook offerings, it’s clear why these are the two leading the way in US sports betting.
From our point of view, FanDuel is the superior option. Yet, what this article really demonstrates is the strength of both companies, both individually and as direct competitors. It’s worth asking where US sports betting, in general, would be without this rivalry. Arguably not as strong and therefore not as appealing to us as bettors.
The pair continue to push each other and set the bar high. Right now, FanDuel and DraftKings are at a level the rest of the competition can only aspire to.
As you can see above, the rivalry between FanDuel vs DraftKings is dominating the sports betting landscape in America.
And as the results of our exclusive poll show, no other sportsbook comes close in terms of brand strength. But how have they come so far, in such a short space of time?
Well, if you weren’t familiar with the two as sportsbooks, try Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) where the two rivals have locked horns for a number of years.
Having built established customer bases within the fantasy sports field, both companies seized the opportunity to expand operations by adding legal sports betting to its package, following the repeal of the federal sports betting ban in 2018.
For both DraftKings and FanDuel, the transition to sports betting has been seamless, helped, in no small part by its existing brand strength in the US.
No longer are the duo just leading DFS providers. They’re now leading the competition when it comes to sports betting in the US too.
