Which sportsbook is better: FanDuel or DraftKings?

In order to gain the most comprehensive answer possible, we pit FanDuel sportsbook vs DraftKings sportsbook across these seven criteria:

These are the key measures we base our sportsbook reviews on (plus seven means there must be a winner!)

It’s worth noting that, app availability (both are accessible on iOS and Android) and state availability (both are live and legal in the key mobile betting states) were not considered as there's little to comment on.

We did, however, find differences in the aforementioned areas.

1. Payment options

In our recent poll, “Trust” was the most common answer (40.58% to the question: “What is most important to you when choosing an online sportsbook?”

“Payments methods” was the second most common answer (24.64%) to the question”

With that in mind, we compared the two betting sites on payment options available.

Deposit options

FanDuel Sportsbook Deposit Methods (vary by state)

  • VISA/Mastercard
  • PayPal
  • ACH
  • Online bank transfer
  • Check
  • PayNearMe
  • FanDuel PrePaid Card
  • Cash at Cage

DraftKings Sportsbook Deposit Methods (vary by state)

  • VISA/Mastercard
  • PayPal
  • ACH
  • Online bank transfer
  • DraftKings PrePaid Card
  • Cash at Cage
  • Check

As you can see, both offer plenty of options to fund your account. But FanDuel offers some, DraftKings does not. For instance, the FanDuel Prepaid card which brings an added sense of security for customers and the PayNearMe option that allows bettors to pay at a convenience store.

Round 1 Winner: FanDuel

2. Odds

The difference in the money you can win is always going to play an important part when choosing a sportsbook. Safe to say both wouldn’t be where they are if they didn’t offer good odds. But to declare who offers is the best in this specific department is tough to determine.

From our experience, though, more value can be found with DraftKings sportsbook. Their sportsbook provider, Kambi is renowned for its unrivaled pricing of markets.

By contrast, FanDuel is slower to react and update odds: the only explanation for this is the superiority of Kambi.

Round 2 Winner: DraftKings

3. Appearance

Jumbled. Illogical. A turn-off. Three ways to describe many US sportsbooks that have launched since 2018. Fortunately, FanDuel and DraftKings are not part of such a club. In fact, the interface and general appearance of both sportsbooks are among the best, albeit quite contrasting.

DraftKings has its dark background and green and white text in keeping with its brand for a striking yet practicable feel. The book is nicely laid out, neat and logical in many ways.

You won't find a more polished, modern-looking sportsbook than FanDuel

Our favorite aspect is the ‘popular sports’ tab positioned across the top of the book which saves time if you’re against the clock and need to place a bet quickly.

A glance at this particular row and you can find what you’re looking for straight away, which is a marked difference compared with FanDuel who instead list ‘popular sports’ down the page (and can mean unnecessary time spent scrolling).

Having said that, you will not find a more polished, modern-looking sportsbook than FanDuel.

Fan Duel sportsbook vs Draft Kings sportsbook

The influence of parent company Flutter Entertainment - responsible for European betting giants Betfair and Paddy Power - is noticeable in the design of the book which has the intent of a bettor firmly in mind.

While the dark background of DraftKings is in line with the ‘dark mode’ function we’re seeing introduced for many social media apps, the navy blue/white combination of FanDuel is aesthetically pleasing and instantly appeals to the eye. What’s more, FanDuel accomplishes the impossible for some books which is: doing the simple things well.

User interface is everything. Ease of use and appearance go hand-in-hand. Get it right, as FanDuel has done, and customers will feel no need to go anywhere else. The bar has been set in this department.

Round 3 Winner: FanDuel

  1. 🖥️ Clean, modern interface

4. Betting variety

Scroll down to the bottom of the DraftKings sportsbook and there’s a (handy) link titled DraftKings vs FanDuel where the Boston-based operator points to having the upper hand in a couple of areas. One of those suggests the availability of sports to bet on is better at DraftKings sportsbook.

As mentioned, DraftKings sportsbook relies on Kambi (the industry-leading supplier of online sportsbooks) when it comes to markets and odds. Their statement does then carry some weight in the sense that their partnership with Kambi means they can offer markets on practically any sport going.

DraftKings can offer more than just the typical wagers

By no means, though, is the variety of sports available at FanDuel any less, at least to the average punter who will still find a range of bets including money lines, spreads, parlays, props, teasers, etc. for sports across the globe.

Kambi enables DraftKings to offer more depth and more than just the typical wagers accessible everywhere else. So, for a more varied range of wagers, DraftKings is the better of the two.

Round 4 Winner: DraftKings

  1. 🏀 Better choice of markets & sports

5. Mobile app

On the App Store, it’s a 4.7 rating for the FanDuel Sportsbook app and 4.8 for DraftKings. But we beg to differ.

As alluded to, the user interface on offer at FanDuel is pretty awesome. Likewise, functionality. Nailing these two qualities makes for an app easy to navigate and a delight to use for all levels of sports bettor.

For instance, live bets, trending bets, or upcoming bets, are all easily accessible through three well-designed tabs. Also, the layout and design of the app are identical to the desktop site which helps to keep that familiarity should you be going between laptop and using the app on-the-move.

The DraftKings sportsbook app offering isn’t far off FanDuel and includes all points discussed already. Like FanDuel, it's also very reliable.

But compared with its fierce rival, it lacks simplicity and ease-of-use. Finding odds and placing a bet is just as good but whereas FanDuel is stripped right back to accommodate beginners, it feels like you could get lost quite easily as a beginner with DraftKings.

Round 5 Winner: FanDuel

6. Customer Service

Overlooked and rarely valued. That is until you need to speak to somebody regarding a bet not being paid out. Or the unavailability of a market that is. As dull as it may sound, it’s essential to consider the importance of customer service.

From checking out Twitter, we can see both are active and responsive to customer issues day, night, and sometimes through the night. And this is good to see. But not everybody is on Twitter. So what are the standard channels of communication like?

Customers at DraftKings have three options available (excluding Twitter) including direct message, e-mail, and post. Customer support is available 24/7 but not via telephone.

FanDuel offers customers the chance to get in touch via a live chat service available 24/7, email, post, and essentially, by telephone (10 am-8 pm).

Both have put together very useful FAQ guides., it must also be said. However, the lack of a phone option at DraftKings is undoubtedly a problem; despite the advancements in technology, many consumers still prefer to have a human voice resolve an issue and are comforted by this. You can’t help but think DraftKings has missed a trick here.

Round 6 Winner: FanDuel

  1. 🗣️ Live chat, email, telephone

7. Welcome Bonus

If you're a new bettor in search of a big welcome bonus then you won't be disappointed with the promos DraftKings and FanDuel have on the table. You will agree that both are substantial and very appealing. But they're also different in how they work, while each promo has its pros and cons.

For example, the DraftKings welcome promo is a 20% deposit bonus. Essentially, this means DraftKings will reward you with a $2 bonus for every $10 wagered (up to $1000). So to get a $100 bonus, you'll need to deposit $500. And to get the maximum $1000 on offer you'll need to deposit $5000.

DraftKings vs FanDuel

DraftKings Sportsbook Sign-Up Offer

20% Deposit Bonus up to $1000

  • Pro: Get rewarded for making your first deposit
  • Con: Smaller bonus overall

FanDuel Sportsbook New Customer Offer

Risk-Free Bet up to $1000 in Site Credit

  • Pro: The risk-free element gives greater freedom
  • Con: Getting your bonus depends on the outcome of your bet

The FanDuel welcome promo comes in the form of a risk-free bet In this instance, you make your first deposit (up to $1000) and place your wager as normal. If your bet wins, you get given your winnings, as standard.

But the risk-free part of the bet means, should you lose, the book will cover your first deposit amount and pay it back to you in site credits (within 72 hours) for you to use again. This means you're guaranteed to come away from your first bet with some money, regardless of the outcome of your initial wager.

Essentially, both offer the same amount. But if we are drawn to one, the risk-free factor attached to the FanDuel promo and the straightforward nature of the offer is a lot more inviting, especially for the betting novice.

Round 7 Winner: FanDuel

  1. 💰 Risk-free bet up to $1000

Which sportsbook is better: FanDuel or DraftKings?

Having analyzed both FanDuel and DraftKings, it’s clear why these are the two leading US sportsbooks. But while both are similar and hard to separate, we believe that FanDuel is the superior option.

What this article really demonstrates, though, is the strength of both companies, both individually and as direct competitors. It’s worth asking where US sports betting as a whole would be without this rivalry. Arguably, the industry wouldn't be as strong and as appealing, to us, as bettors.

Clear for all to see is how the two companies continue to push each other and set the bar high. Right now, FanDuel and DraftKings are a level above the competition.
