A Real Classic All-Star Game!
Also known as the “Midsummer Classic”, the 2019 Major League Baseball All-Star Game lived up to its name and delivered a Home Run Derby and a game for the ages, a real “classic” played in Cleveland, Ohio.
The home run derby broke all records and was led by two young starts: Pete Alonso and Vlad Guerrero Jr.
Mets phenom Alonso ended up winning the derby in an “all-rookies” final, edging Blue Jays’ Vald Jr by one home run to win the $1 million prize.
The MLB's youth movement not only won the derby but runner up rookie sensation Vlad Jr. also broke the single-derby home run record.
Vlad hit a total of 91 home runs smashing the previous record of 61 by Giancarlo Stanton in 2016.
With a total of 312 home runs, the 2019 Home Run Derby had the most total homers ever, shattering the previous record of 221 home runs, set just last year.
This was all Monday night.
Last night, it was another memorable game that made the headlines as the AL defeated the NL by the score of 4-3, winning it for the 7th straight year.
The game's MVP was Cleveland's local hero pitcher Shane Bieber after striking out the side in the 5th inning.
MLB's 90th All-Star Game will be remembered for the slugfest at the Home Run Derby as well as top notch pitching at the All-Star Game.
