While the rest of the US has been getting busy with a series of launches, it has been awfully quiet on the West Coast.
But that’s all set to change as Oregon officially set their sports betting industry into motion.
Southwest of Portland, the Chinook Winds Casino Resort will become the first location to take a legal sports wager in The Beaver State.
Initially, it was thought The Oregon Lottery would be first to kick things off in early September with its online sports betting offering.
They’ve been pipped to the post in terms of cutting the ribbon however.
Only in-person, Nevada style wagering will take place at the Chinook to begin with - mobile wagering will be addressed in due course.
As well as winning the race, the land based sportsbook will have one up on the lottery with its coverage of college sports.
The advantage will swing back the way of the lottery though once “Scoreboard”, the lottery’s new sports betting game, launches to coincide with the start of the NFL on September 5.
Oregon’s first online offering will allow bettors the opportunity to bet on NBA, NHL, MLB, Soccer, PGA and NASCAR, as well as football, from their mobile device.
