DraftKings Sportsbook States: A look ahead
Is DraftKings Sportsbook legal in New York?
Not online but DraftKings do already serve New York sports bettors at its retail sportsbook at del Lago Resort & Casino Waterloo, NY.
And the agreement DraftKings and del Lago share also enables DraftKings to launch online sports betting when New York authorizes wagering online, which could be before the Super Bowl in 2022.
In short, DraftKings will add New York to its list of legal states, the question is when this will happen.
Is DraftKings Sportsbook legal in California?
Right now, no. California hasn't approved legal sports betting.
But when, as expected the Golden State does open a legal betting market, DraftKings could potentially gain access to California sports betting through its partnership with Caesars Entertainment who operates Harrah’s Resort Southern California.
The 2021 legislative session in CA will be crucial in how the state moves forward with plans for legal sports betting but given DraftKings’s success and countrywide appeal, one can expect DraftKings to feature heavily in any bidding process for a CA online sports betting license.
Is DraftKings Sportsbook legal in Texas?
No, at this moment legal sports betting in Texas doesn't exist.
But 2021 is a big year for many states considering sports betting bills and they don’t come any bigger than Texas. Like CA, it’s thought should one of the proposals come to pass, 2022 could be a potential timeframe for what will become one of the most lucrative sports betting states.
Any TX market is likely to be based solely online and will undoubtedly include DraftKings, as has been the case with every online betting market that has launched in the US to date.
