OUR VERDICT: 8/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Caesars is the biggest casino company in the states but has never been a contender in the sports betting world. Until now of course. The acquisition of William Hill has allowed Caesars to use the existing framework and technology of one of the world's most respected bookmakers and rebrand as Caesars sportsbook. With many ways to deposit, a clean, easy to use interface, and a huge welcome bonus, Caesars sportsbook is poised to challenge the major players of online betting.

Your Guide To Online Gambling in Arizona

What Does Online Gambling In Arizona Look Like?

Ever since the idea of legalizing online gambling in Arizona was seriously brought to the table, it has always been a question of how this would eventually happen, and what will legal online gambling in Arizona look like?

Well, fast-forward to 2021 and that question has become much easier to answer.

With the stroke of a pen, Governor Doug Ducey officially gave life to Arizona’s new sports betting law in April 2021.

Over the course of the next few months, the Arizona Department of Gaming was able to finalize the rules and regulations of how online gambling would play out in Arizona.

Online Sports Betting in Arizona

The main goal of Arizona’s betting law, a fully-legal and regulated online sports betting industry, has finally been turned into a reality for residents (and visitors) of the Grand Canyon State.

Following the standard procedure of other states with legal gambling, anyone in Arizona aged 21 or older is allowed to partake in legal sports betting, both online or in-person.

Arizona bettors will enjoy the freedom to choose if they want to place real money wagers at either a land-based retail location, such as a tribal-casino or sportsbook located at their favorite sporting events, or alternatively on one of the various online betting sites currently available.

Online Casinos & Poker in Arizona

As I have mentioned, the main intent of Arizona’s betting law was to solely introduce legal sports betting, rather than legalizing online casino play as well.

Unfortunately, this means for those located in Arizona hoping for a legal online casino experience, you’ll have to wait a bit longer.

Although there are no legal online casinos in Arizona yet, this may change in the not-too-distant future given the rate at which the legal online gambling landscape is constantly changing.

For all casino needs in Arizona, there is still a large selection of tribal casinos that offer great casino gambling experiences on their own.

Arizona Online Gambling Sites - Where to Bet

Since its inception, Arizona’s legal online sports betting industry has been a fiercely competitive market to enter.

The opportunity to be one of the first legal operators in Arizona created a bit of a mad-dash of organizations trying to receive one of the 20 available licenses from the ADG.

Fortunately for bettors in Arizona, the fierce competition for the available licenses means there is already a wide variety of options available of online gambling sites and sportsbooks to place wagers with right off the bat.

Under the current law, the total number of online sportsbooks could eventually reach as high as 40 in total! For now, at least, there are 9 different online betting sites to place wagers with while within Arizona state lines. That number is expected to rapidly increase in the near future as the remaining few licenses are distributed. Take a look at what we believe to be the top 3 options currently available in Arizona!

Legal Online Gambling in Arizona - What Are The Rules?

When PASPA (the federal ban on sports betting) was overturned in 2018, it left each state to decide and define its own rules and regulations regarding how sports betting would work in their respective states. In Arizona, State Bill HB2772 alongside the Arizona Department of Gaming defines the rules and regulations associated with sports betting in the Grand Canyon state.

ADG Logo

Arizona Department of Gaming is the regulatory body that controls all gambling in AZ.

Arizona Sports Betting & Online Gambling Laws

These are the key rules everyone should know about Arizona’s State Bill HB2772:

  • Full-scale online/mobile betting is allowed.
  • Online casinos (including poker) are still strictly forbidden under Arizona State Bill HB2772.
  • The minimum age to place a bet is 21 years old (21+).
  • In addition to online betting, sports betting is also permitted at up to 10 different licensed land-based casinos.
  • All real money bets placed with an Arizona licensed sportsbook, online or in-person, must take place within state borders. I.e For those registered with an Arizona betting site, you can not place a wager unless you are physically located in Arizona at the time of placing your bet.
  • Collegiate sports betting is permitted, with the exception of no individual player prop bets. The one loophole in this rule is that you can still bet on collegiate ‘Future’ bets, such as the Heisman Trophy winner.
  • The Arizona Department of Gaming will act as the regulatory authority for sports betting in Arizona.
  • In Arizona, a total of 20 sports betting licenses were allowed to be handed out to casinos and sports franchises.
↳ Up to 10 licenses can be awarded to professional sports franchises or facilities.
↳ Up to 10 licenses can be awarded to federally recognized tribes located within Arizona.
↳ Each license allows brick-and-mortar betting and two online skins (or “brands”).
↳ Each pro sports team awarded with a license is allowed one primary sportsbook on-premises and a second “adjacent” location in the nearby surrounding area.
  • Arizona residency is not required to place a bet. I.e state visitors aged 21 and up can place a real money wager while visiting Arizona.

Betting On Arizona Sports Teams

AZ Sports Teams Logos
Between all of the professional sports teams in Arizona, fans will have plenty of action to bet on all year long.

Betting on the Phoenix Suns - NBA

After their impressive post-season run in 2021, Phoenix Suns fans have a lot to be happy about. Not only do they have a contending team in the Phoenix Suns, but they can now also put their money where their mouths are and bet on their hometown team. Suns fans can place their bets with an online sports betting site or at the FanDuel Sportsbook at Footprint Center, the home of the Suns.

One of the most common (and fun) ways to bet on the Phoenix Sun is Spread Betting.

Spread Betting Explained

Nick

For those unfamiliar with spread betting, essentially it works like this:

  • A points handicap is established by the oddsmakers (the mysterious group of mathematicians that establish the odds for sporting events) for a game.
  • The team that is favorite to win will be assigned a minus (-) points value, while the underdog will be assigned a plus (+) points value.
  • For example, let’s say the Phoenix Sun are 7.5 point favorites to win, playing against the LA Lakers, who would then be 7.5 point underdogs. The spread would look like this:
    • Phoenix Sun -7.0
    • LA Laker +7.0
  • If you were to bet on the -7.0 Phoenix Sun spread, they would need to win the game by at least 8 points for your bet to win. So let’s say the game finished 108-100 in favor of the Sun, when you factor in the spread, the score would be 101-100 in favor of the Sun.
  • If you bet on the underdog to cover the spread you apply the same process to see if your bet won. Rather than subtracting the points value, you would add it to the final score. Remember, the underdogs’ points value is positive (+), so they would get points added to their final score. If they would still lose the game after adding the extra points, the bet would lose.
  • If the score is tied after factoring in the handicaps, the bet would be considered a ‘Push’ and your initial wager would be returned. In this case that would mean a 107-100 Suns win would become 100-100 when subtracting the Suns’ spread, or alternatively 107-107 when adding the Lakers spread. If you ever see a spread that has a half-point value, such as -7.5, that is to avoid a possible push.

Betting on the Arizona Cardinals - NFL

With a talented offense led by young-gun QB Kyler Murray and veteran WR Deandre Hopkins, the Arizona Cardinal are an exciting team to watch and even more fun to bet on.

Arizona Cardinals fans are currently able to bet on their team using online betting sites or any of the land-based casinos with sports betting licenses. Beginning in 2022, fans will also have the choice to place their bets at the BetMGM Sportsbook at State Farm Stadium, making gameday an even more fun experience.

One way I personally enjoy betting on the NFL is by making player-prop bets. Some of the player props that I find most exciting to bet on are:

  • Anytime Touchdown Scorer
  • Player Receiving Yards
  • Player Rushing Yards
  • Playing Throwing Yards

Not only are player prop bets are a great way to make watching a game even more fun, but you can also find great value in player prop bets if you know your football well enough.

Betting on the Arizona Diamondbacks - MLB

Baseball is one of my favorite sports to find a good value bet.

Given the sheer amount of games played in an MLB season, the amount of underdog wins is naturally higher than in other sports. This means that betting the Moneyline is a great way to bet on baseball (especially the Diamondbacks).

A Moneyline bet is the most straightforward bet there is, essentially you are betting solely on the winner of the game. Runs, hits, errors, etc don’t matter when betting the Moneyline (ML), all that matters is who wins the game.

Arizona Diamondbacks fans can place their bets on one of the online sportsbooks in AZ or they can use the new in-stadium Caesars Sportsbook at Chase Field to place bets on game day.

Betting on the Arizona Coyotes - NHL

When you think of Arizona, the first thing you think about is probably an abundance of cactus plants and unfathomable heat. Yet, despite the illogical environment for an ice hockey team, there stands the Arizona Coyotes.

Although they were the one professional sports team in Arizona to be snubbed of a sports betting retail location, fans can still use any of the online sports betting sites in AZ to bet on their Coyotes.

A great way to bet on the NHL is the Puck Line. The Puck Line is essentially a points handicap similar to Spread Betting in the NBA or NFL.

In theory, betting on the Puck Line works in the exact same way as betting against the spread in other sports. However, the main difference with the Puck Line is that it is always at -1.5, meaning if you know your hockey well enough, you can find great value betting on the Puck Line as opposed to betting on the straight moneyline.

Betting on the Phoenix Mercury - WNBA

Arizona fans of the WNBA have a great home-state team in the Phoenix Mercury. Sharing the Footprint Center with their NBA counterparts, the Phoenix Suns, fans of the Mercury can also bet on their team at the FanDuel Sportsbook located in the stadium, or they can always use an online betting site as well. In addition to spread betting, ‘Futures’ betting is a great way to enjoy a WNBA season. Some of the most popular Futures betting markets include:

  • WNBA Champions
  • MVP
  • Conference Winners
