BetRivers (Rush Street Interactive) was part of a successful joint bid to enter the New York sports betting market, one that saw fellow operators Caesars Sportsbook, PointsBet, Resorts World, WynnBET, and primary applicant Kambi all gain access to the New York betting market as well.

The New York State Gaming Commission awarded BetRivers its license to operate back in November 2021, with the goal of launching its betting services in NY before Super Bowl LVI on February 13, 2022, which happens to be the most popular sports event to bet on in the US.

BetRivers's online sportsbook officially launched in New York on January 8th, 2022.

Because BetRivers had already been awarded the license to operate in New York, it has technically already been considered legal since November 2021.

There were certain logistical hurdles to overcome before online sports betting was officially launched in New York. More precisely, there was work to be done to guarantee that the commercial casinos that house the betting companies' servers had the necessary infrastructure to do so.

The final roadblocks were thankfully sorted out well ahead of schedule, which allowed the New York State Gaming Commission to give the green light for online sports betting to begin on the morning of January 8th, 2022!
